To me the whole story here is about the power of the present awareness, represented by the light cone. This is today, this is what I am aware of. The memories (framed pictures) fade into the darkness of forgetting. Not entirely, but clearly out of my "daylight". Interestingly, there is a shadow above the lamp, one to the right and one below. But there is non towards the past. ;)
