Hello - I have a Powershot SD300 that has been great. It's my frst Canon, after shelving the Olympus I've had for years.

Last weekend I took a few photos that show up fine in the viewer on the camera but once uploaded to my PC are unviewable. Depending on the program I am trying to view them in it is either a white box with a red X in it or an alert that says the file is unreadable.

I went back and deleted everything off of the card (from the camera) except for the photos that I can't view on my PC. There was 1 corrupt data image that i also deleted. I then took a couple of photos which are fine (viewabe on the PC), but I am still unable to view the other ones from last weekend.

I have tried 2 image repair programs - PhotoRescue and PictureRepair - and neither helped.

Any suggestions to how to recover these images and prevent this from happening in the future?

Many thanks - Adavici

are u using a card reader or using the usb cable from the camera. Had similar problem on my wife's kodak camera and instead of using the card reader i used the camer'as usb cable and it worked fine.

If that dont work, i dont know, but after ake sure u format ur card so it dont happen again.

Causes for corruption:
1) You turn off the camera before the buffer has written images to the card (wait for blinking light to stop if u have one
2) Taking the CF card out if the power on the camera is still on
3) Taking your CF card out of a USB reader without "stopping the device" on ur computer
4) RARE file corruptions caused by a bug in the camera software that should only happen 1/5000 shots.
5) Other reasons i cant think of are possible.

Avalonthas - I was using a card reader.

I just installed and used the canon software and uploaded the photos directly from the camera and it worked! I will keep your suggestions in mind to avoid this reoccuring.

Thanks a lot - I really appreciate it!
