Looking for a studio camera stand, can't find one without a "," in the price. Thought about this instead.

Anyone have one and can give me advice?

The 058B is the successor to my 3051. It's what I use in the studio and, occasionally, in the field. I'll never get rid of it.

Thanks, Skip. WHat head do you use? I'm leary of that pistol grip thing. It's only rated at about 5 lbs.

On my 3051 I have mostly used a 3130 mini fluid head (http://www.bogenimaging.us/Jahia/site/bius/pid/6780?kindOfProductCollectionRequest=productDetail&productCode=128RC&productDescription=MICRO%20FLUID%20VIDEO%20HEAD%20 W/QRCP&curBrandId=MAN&market=MKT1&product_from_search=true) on top of a 3502 Compact Leveler (http://www.bogenimaging.us/Jahia/site/bius/pid/6780?kindOfProductCollectionRequest=productDetail&productCode=438&productDescription=Compact%20Camera%20Leveler&curBrandId=MAN&market=MKT1&product_from_search=true).

At times, I use a 410 geared head (http://www.bogenimaging.us/Jahia/site/bius/pid/6780?kindOfProductCollectionRequest=productDetail&productCode=410&productDescription=Junior%20Geared%20Head%20With%2 0Rc4%20Rapid%20Connect%20Plate%20(410Pl)&curBrandId=MAN&market=MKT1&product_from_search=true) when I really need precision adjustments. I used to use the 3051/410 for supporting an astronomical telescope.

I bought the tripod and tried a pistol grip. You are right, I didn't like it either. Instead, I topped it with old faithful, the 488rc2. It's VERY sturdy, exactly what I was looking for. Love the crank.

Thanks for the direction Skip.

If you're going to drag the tripod out of the house from time to time, you'll definitely want this "long strap" from Manfrotto (http://www.bogenimaging.us/Jahia/site/bius/pid/6780?kindOfProductCollectionRequest=productDetail&productCode=102&productDescription=CARRYING%20STRAP%20FOR%20CAMERA %20TRPD&curBrandId=MAN&market=MKT1). It makes carrying the tripod across your back a LOT easier than wrapping your arms around it.

It came with the strap. Sure does help!
