I'm in the office at the moment so can't really read it thoroughly but seem quite interesting

All I can say at the moment is "Holy camera batman!!!"
I suggest you make sure you are strapped into your chair tightly when you read through this......some of it is rather shocking.........and you may hear your wallet scream.....hehe.

It's like really expensive lego.

Yup, that's a pretty good analogy of it......A lego set for the big kids. Although if you leave these peices on the floor (duno why) and step on them, it won't be just your foot hurting......hehe.

I'll believe it when it's on the shelves and someone is saying it's good.
Till then I just regard RED as a company with a bored digital 3D modelling technician.
 Sure they say they can do all they can do...but will they? when? 2050?
261 mpx...frick off, 8 is enough as it is.

Hey, even if it's not on the shelves (that I know of), it's still cool to think it would work well. Would be interesting to actually try one of these just for the heck of it.

Vincent Laforet seems to like their stuff...
Looks damned good product to me (visually I mean!) and interesting concept, imagine the ability to swap lens mount on an SLR - no more swapping systems to make use of specific gear :)

I'm all about their ideas, but am somewhat doubtful they can deliver as promised.
Too bad they don't have plans for a ($2500) Scarlet 2/3" sensor with Canon mount, it would be a good way to get into the Red system without breaking the bank.

The reason why it wont break the SLR market is the price. the best SLRs are less than 10 000 $ and these "brains" average in the mid 5 figure digits.

I agree, there will be no "breaking" of the DSLR market.
I could see it stealing some sales from the MF group, as the price difference is less dramatic and the user could change from MF to 35mm.

Keep in mind the flexibility of the system, swapping out lens mounts and etc
And the fact it does honest-to-goodness video, not gimmicky video like on the 5DM2 and the D90, we're talking pro grade video here guys...

I heard that Lord of the Rings filming used a Red One by the way, if it's good enough for Hobbitwood, it's good enough for me ;)

Dear Photography,
My wallet hates you. My girlfriend is jealous of you. My other hobbies won't even speak your name. My studies suffer for you.
But I love you.

I was going to consider exchanging my other hobby for a RED system, but decided I can't afford it. So I will just go back to collecting Rolls Royce Phantoms.
