Hi All
I just got a 1 gig Microdrive sent over from the US where it cost 225US$ compared to the UK 279£ at Jessops.
I had been debating about it for some time. Half the people said yes it's great, the others warned me off saying it could fail. Strangely the same people then went onto bitch about how the CF card had failed and they lost shots.
So I went for it and got the drive. My friend in NYC copied some files on and off and it was fine.
Part of the reason for getting it was I found it was very hard to find anywhere to download images when travelling and also studio shooting with a bunch of cards can get to be a pain swapping back and forth so much.
Now I use a Mac so this maybe the issue, found it slow to load verging on freezing loading off the card reader and when I started using it I could get CF Errors periodically.
After a reformat by the camera things were smoother but the CF errors still pop'd up intermittently. No images were ever lost, just the thing would 'jam/freeze' and I'd need to restart the camera. This has happened alot since I first started to use it - now 3 days or so.
So is it OK, is it broken or is it all me? I got a RMA number from the store but no point sending it all back etc if it's actuall fine.
I also just discovered this:
http://www.canon.co.jp/Imaging/PSG2/PSG2_Firmware-e.html
with:
Firmware update Ver. 1.1.0.0 provides the following modification:
- Corrected the phenomenon that caused occasional CF write errors when taking photos in the high speed continuous shooting mode
Which maybe needed since I normally want to shoot fast.
Any experience or comments? I bought my G2 back in Nov 2001 so it must be one of the early ones.
Cheers
Mark
