Hello all and thanks for taking the time to look at this. I'll be as brief as I can.
I just got a freelance gig shooting a variety of subject matter for the web. Everything from jewelry to fossles & am running into lighting nightmares. I am using a canon digital slr rebel xt (?) eos, I have a bevvy of lighting tools (2 tents, 2 hot flashes, 2 stage lights with barn doors and hoods, an overhead lamp, and industrial white hallogens, as well as an underlit soft white jewelry stand.). As well as a couple of lenses. The problem I am running into is that my employer is looking for a certain stark white background quality (example www.shopnbc.com jewelry), without using any photoshop. I am to shoot, dump to the computer, crop, then send off to the web guys. So, the tech issue I am having is that I can't seem to figure out how to get a decent uniform lighting set up that will do justice to both the silver band of the ring and the color of the stones without causing any glair, shadows, or discolouration. As well, I am trying to keep as much of the head and shaft of the rings in focus as possible.
I have been running the gammut of settings, surfaces (tent, no tent, foam core board, tracing paper, the plastic surface itself.....), flashes, speeds, apperture settings, lens', and lighting araingments and I can't seem to find the varriable. I have found it on occasion, but once I switch rings (same style different stone) I lose it.
Ever greatfull to anyone who reads this.
