Handheld, that is. :D

All of these are straight out of the camera; I was too excited to get them posted up really quickly. I'm sure I was quite the sight when I took these. I fired the flash a bunch of times while I was running around the car with it like an idiot.

The location really wasn't the best, but I didn't care. Tonight was the first night all winter where I could actually be outside for any decent amount of time without freezing my butt off.

I'm planning on doing some PP and posting up the final results, but that probably won't be until next week.

Equipment used was Canon XTI, Canon 28-135mm IS, 430EX II

Thanks for looking!

the last one needs tweaking with levels and wish the wheel wasn't cut off (or cropped)

Yeah, lesson learned. I have to bring a flashlight next time so I can see the car to better compose the shots.

These are all straight out of the camera; I know that they need some tweaking.

One and three look pretty good. The BG in two, not too fond of it; windows, non-vertical lines.

The tire was cut in three, not the wheel. Wheels are a no-no but with the black BG, cutting the tire isn't that bad.

One thing I like about the first is how the color temps really help isolate the car from the BG lighting. It could use a crop to wipe out some of the foreground and right side. The parking line in the center could use a clone. For "as shot" pics, nice.

I tried your lighting method once. Get yourself a 580II and you'll be rockin'. I use two 580s and a 430 plus two umbrellas for lots of fun.

Thank you very much for your input! As soon as I can afford more lighting supplies, I'll be sure to expand my collection. You mentioned editing the first shot...how do you like what I came up with? In a way, I liked how the background separated the car, but I really like how it turned out in B&W.

I like the lighting and color, but wipe out the right side, right of the truck (from the left edge of the trailer?).

That shot is cool because the cool lighting on the car isolates it from the warmer lighting in the BG. Going B&W will look nice, but it loses that effect.

Ahh, now I see the edit. The vertical crop is perfect. The right (the trailer), definitely needs to go. If only the faint truck were an old Auto Union car. Not likely to find that sitting around(!).

I like the exposure on the edited one, however the trucks just don't do it for me. But you've already stated that.

I like it! It almost looks like the BG is a separate, lower opacity layer. If it was a current model year car, Audi might consider buying it for an ad! In this format, the B&W really works well.
