...that makes the photographer. Or rather- that helps the photographer. Our house is decorated with framed nature pictures taken by my hubby 5-6 years ago with a 2MP point and shoot camera. They are AWESOME! All 8x10s, low noise, great color, framing is perfect, etc.

So I gave said hubby my 5D to snap a shot of me and some of the animals I work with. I just went through the pictures today and...

(Pardon the dumb face I'm making- she only gets excited if you're acting excited.)

That's the best one out of the bunch. I asked him what happened and he said "I thought you had it on automatic for me!". Oy.

But the man is a genius with a P&S!

So, put the camera on automatic and make him a genius again!
Ya just gotta give a guy a break sometimes.

I thought he knew how to use it! The man's been selling his prints for, like, 20 years! And for pretty decent money. That'll learn me to assume.

Haha that still is an awesome photo.

I think it's possible that I took better photos with my XTi than I do with my 50D, but then again, I haven't traveled to any of the fun places I took my XTi to where I got said good shots. It's so true though, it isn't the camera that takes the photo, it's the equipment behind the camera. :)

What are we hiring for? :)

What are we hiring for? :)

Educator of Humane Animal Treatment at a not-for-profit animal center in Rancho Santa Fe, CA. :) I technically work there, though I haven't been to work in a few weeks. That's probably why they're hiring! Haha! Basically the job entails you taking sweet animals like Harriet to schools and teaching kids Animal Sciences and stuff. It's actually a pretty fun job, and if you're a male it is to date a female-only department, and most of them are still single. :)

Did I mention pay is crap? Especially since you have to live in SoCal. It's PT (about 20 hours) at $10/hr. But trust me, it has it's rewards and there's a reason I've been there for over a year and a half and have no intentions on leaving!

I hear to cover the rest of the costs you can prostitute yourself to make extra cash. ;)

At least they are prettier than the "flying rats" (aka pigeons) here in Chicago. :)

We have those at work, too. We call them "doves".

And yes, prostitution can be quite the money maker when things get tight. ;)

Yeah, I think it's the 5D2 getting in your way. You should send it to me to get it off your hands and then try your luck. It might also be your approach. What's your pick-up line?

I didn't know prostitutes had pick-up lines. I just look at a chick and say, "how much cash do you have"?

I just ask them. "Do you think it's worth it?" Then they drive away rapidly :(

A few years ago my next door neighbor got four peacocks (two were peahens, actually). He thought they'd stay in their cage. Wrong!

For a couple of years they wandered around the neighborhood. Noisy, messy, but not destructive AFAIK.

Some of the neighbors hated them. I think the grumpy old bastard a couple of houses down the block poisoned one of them. I thought they were great!

Pardon the image quality - taken with my Nikon POS (errr, P&S)

Nah, you gotta go for the classics. "I give you boom, boom" and "Me love you long time". Works for me... every time!

The problem with cockatoos they come over in swarms of hundreds.. One weedend I decided to paint a wooden out door setting which was looking a little tired.. Wife and I were pretty pleased with the result as the next step was to buy a new one.. We went to work on the Monday morning, came home and the damn things had chewed to corners off the setting,,their claws dug into my new paint work..And wait there's more,,my wife decorated the table with a lovely plant in a terracotta pot.. Pot was found smashed on the floor with no sign of the plant

My neighbour constructed a new pergola to cover his deck.. Our feathered friends chewed the roofing screw caps off,,all of them.. Now the pergola roof leaks..

Just another day in paradise, eh? Still, would you rather be hiding from polar bears like our Canadian friends?

We were house hunting and went to a house where a peacock just randomly lived. He'd been there for YEARS because all of the old MLS listings (from 2004 on) featured him. He was really pretty and I guess they keep away some other animals so that was nice. So I can't say I'd dislike having a peacock around unless it was mean and tried to bite me. I had a duck do that to me once.

The peacocks we had weren't mean at all, just a little skittish. They're wild birds, after all. But they crapped everywhere. Lots. The chicks were adorable, but only one or two survived.

Oh, yeah: they shriek. Loud.

Sometimes we'd lie in bed late at night and hear a faraway shriek, then a response from our own yard. Back and forth for a long time.

They can make themselves heard a couple of miles away on a quiet night. (A night that *was* quiet).

I miss them.

Eee-awww Eee-awww. People at work call me Peacock because I make that noise. They guy down the road used to have them and my dad (named George) always said listen, they're saying "Hey George.". Which it did sound like it  We used to scream back at them and 'talk' to them. I'm special. :)
