My computer is dead (woe is me) I'm getting a laptop as a desktop replacement. I've narrowed it down to the following 2 that seem to suit my needs of power, video, appropriate screen etc, both should be adequate for some PP if I calebrate them I can also hook up to an external monitor when I need to.

Which would you choose & explain if you feel you need to, cause I like to hear why... I'm still batteling this myself...

I'm not really GOING anywhere with it, I just want a laptop so I can roam around my house with it... WOULD 18" be TOO large if there is such a thing... is the dell screen better? or the hp's 1080p screen better... I go back and forth about the options and features of the 2 laptops....

Given you don't really need a laptop i'd suggest a desktop. For the same price you'll get a latest generation Core i7 processor and 20" or better screen, faster, better in every way except portability. Plus then there's the bonus you can escape the machine by walking away from it.

stay away from glossy screens..

sure you want to roam around the house with your computer, but how about you go for a smaller screened laptop and have a larger true colour screen for when you want to do work instead of roaming the net?

while I'm escaping the noise of my home, family of 6... 4 of which are my 4, 5 year olds ;)

So it'll be nice to do work upstairs if I want to, or in the front room, or living room, or even outside on a nice evening after the kids go to bed...

That aside space is also an issue, ( to the post above about getting a desktop ) my office is in the finished basement... in the spring / summer it gets rittled with spiders  *shudder* I'm not living that again... besides I cant work down there while all my kids are romping around & who wants to be locked in the dungeon? ( not that I'm on the computer ALL the time... but if I wanted to check a quick email or whatnot... whip out the laptop... it'd be great to do... I'm really excited about it)

Anyway... ends up I'm picking up a laptop today that is not even on this poll

LOL.

because its Sony! even people who work for sony hate their laptops! ..

there are numerous reasons why you shouldn't buy a Sony.. just google and you'll see the problems people have with their Sony laptops
