Hi- first post here. Bought a new EOS20-D today, shot a wedding of best friend. I loaded the software. It seems to be completly in place. All files are in the folder. EOS Viewer Utility resides on desktop. System more than meets software configuration requirments. Am using ME. Camera/Menu/Communications set to Normal, then turned off, connected to system, turned system on. "Found New Hardware" dialog box appeared. It did not flash off. I had left CD in tray. Opened EOS Viewer Utility, selected EOS Capture setup. Got a Driver install options. had no idea which to select. Got out. Re started system and attempted to link camera to the system again. More attempts to link camera and system failed. Uninstalled software and tried again. Still getting "Camera is not recognized" Totally stumpted.
I think I may have screwed up the communications somehow. Do not know how to fix that.
I really need to get these images to the couple. Do not have a card reader on the system.
Grateful-Paul

My best tip is to buy a card reader, they're cheap and fast. I've never plugged my 20D into the computer so I have no idea how to do it, sorry.

Why don't you hook up a card reader and then start all over?
I never found Windows ME to be that good, so I never put it on any system of mine.

Have you looked in control Panel to see if is enabled... If it is it might be enabled with the wrong driver so remove it... Go to add and remove programs and remove the new canon software then reinstall...

I had the same problem using the Canon software with my 1DmkII. But I was able to see my camera from the Windows explorer.

I appreciate the replies. I have uninstalled/reinstalled several times. No luck. The drivers are in place. However, I see no cameras or drivers under Device Manager. A new system with a card reader will be available in a few weeks. But, I need the wedding pics now.
godfrey- How did you find the camera via Windows explorer please?
Many Thanks-Paul

I've seen basic USB 1.1 card readers for $5.

Paul, the camera should just appear near the bottom of the left window if it's going to. I have to agree with Bob, card readers are cheap, go get one, it'll save you a LOT of trouble.

Am using ME.
That's an issue right there. ME is the most horrible OS on the planet. Have a friend with XP? Use their computer. I also have to agree that a cheap reader is the real answer.

I recall reading that ME's USB2 support is flawed.

I recall reading that ME's USB2 support is flawed.
Of course it is. Why should it be any different from any other part of ME? Going from W98SE to WinME constitutes a downgrade! I'd almost say the same about going from W95 to ME.
