so this is my first post. today is my birthday and my pops just bought me a new black rebel xt, as well as a 75-300mm lense, 2GB memory stick, tripod, camera bag, plus a trip to europe. i am gonna have so much fun with this camera there. i am fairly new to photography, i love to draw and paint and i figured i would pick up a new part form. so here i am. i am here looking to learn as much as i can from this place.

Happy birthday. You must have been VERY good this year. I'd get a UV haze filter and keep it on (unless you change filters) to protect your lenses. Can't tell in the photos. Have a great time in Europe and with the camera. PS--would your father consider adopting me?

yea im stoked, ive been playing around with it all day. so im faily new to this whole photography thing, i have some classes set up but i was wondering is there anything i should know about this camera in reguards to maintenence? the trip to europe should be amazing, i should get some awesome shots. hopefully it doesnt get stolen. thanks for the comments guys, i appreciate it.

Adam,
Take lots of extra memory, you don't want to run out in the middle of the day. Bring an extra battery - same reason. Last, but not least - experiment with RAW photos - It took me almost a year to start playing with those, and I certainly wish I had done this sooner.
