Hello all, I am new to this forum and am returning after a loooong layoff from my photohobby (20+ years). Back then had a full Canon set-up, multiple lenses, etc. Lost it all in "the divorce". I am finally back where I can afford a nice (but not too expensive rig). I picked up a 40D with the 17-85 lens. Planning on the 100 macro next plus a 70-200 later on. I love macro so I am looking for a tripod that will be mainly used for that and around the house etc (no real hiking). I am very interested in the Uni-Loc tripod but trying to get one here in the states seems virtually impossible. I called one company that advertises as selling them, they said they would send a catalog (haven't seen it yet). Pro4 used to sell them but they don't exist. So, does anyone have a clue where I might be able find one? Barring that I am leaning towards the Manfrotto Pro serires with the mobile boom. Also am considering a Manfrotto monopod for walking around, etc. Any opinions etc would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Guy

The tripod recommendation you'll get the most around here is the Manfrotto 055XPROB legs with the 488RC2 ball head. It's a great setup for a very reasonable price.

Oh, and welcome to POTN! =)
