I hope I am getting the hang of this.:o

I attended the Sierra K-9 competition Saturday. K-9 teams from all over California compete in search, protection and apprehension. They are something to watch. The attached images are of my favorite breed for police work, the Melanois. Though not as large as the German Shepherd and some of the others , they are extremely quick, fast, agile, and fearless. Their somewhat diminuative size is an asset in their ability to live in the patrol cars.
The first pic is a K-9 in full charge.
The second is the bite.
Gotta hand it to the agitators in the bite suits, they had a long hot day.

I was using my 20D, and Tamron 28-300 on TV and AI Servo, 400 ISO

Tell me what you think.

Very nice shots. It's amazing how gentle these animals are otherwise. I had a friend that was a K9 policeman and his dog was so gentle at home.

Having been on the end of one of these animals (in error by them I hasten to add) whilst chasing an offender I know how fast they can run so well done Skip for capturing the essence of their speed and power.

Wow, cool pics....I have a GSD with strong Schuthund lineage and my cousin trains protection work dogs (she actually had Melanois'), so what I am tring to say is I like your subject matter :).....those events are really fun to see...great job! Thanks Monty. In the last photo the K-9 is not just sitting. He has a firm bite on the agitators sleeve and the handler is trying to convince the K-9 to let go! :p
These dogs are deadly serious about their work

Really good work Skip. All I can think of is having lots of dog treats and repeating the mantra: nice doggie. nice doggie.

Yeeeeeeeah that's the job I want to be bitten in the ass by a dog! Woof woof not! Great pictures but I'll be crossing that job off the career path list.

It's amazing how gentle these animals are otherwise. I had a German Shephard as a kid & we would get into mock fights. It was amazing that he could snap at me & grab my arm hard enough that I couldn't pull away, but there was never enough pressure to cause pain! Great dogs! ;-)
Good pics, too!
