step 1. Select small AF frame.

step 2. Press shutter release halfway to focus.

step 3. While shutter release is still pressed halfway, press MF button to lock focus. Pressing MF button changes small AF frame to large.

Questions:

1. After pressing MF button, does focus obtained by small AF frame remain in effect, or does focus become that of large AF frame?

2.What is the purpose or reason for MF changing small AF frame to large?

3. I always lock AF with MF button, so I wonder if I should even bother selecting small AF frame?

good questions!

1- I observed that AF not always get good or perfect focus, I supose it is due to the contrast AF system. I guess even MF could change from one frame to another when changing zoom range.
I mean, you set MF at (for instance 5meters) then zoom out, then zoom in again and set MF to the same distance, and you might not get the same exact focus.

I detected that when the zoom is at its highest end, focus is not always "perfect" (when using AF), so I shoot more than one frame
I always use center-small area AF, btw.

I will test your question 2 & 3 by shooting some pictures, then compare results at 100%.
In fact I didn't know about the function you comment in Q3 :)
