This is the classic view from Dead Horse Point, with the Colorado River winding its way through the red rock.

I tried to capture the effect of Shafer Trail, which climbs some 1400 feet in a series of switchbacks, with White Rim Canyon in the background.

Here is a closer view of White Rim Canyon, which drops another 700 feet to the river.

This last shot is of the Pinnacles, an awesome rock formation in Canyonlands.

Stan, wonderful photos. It's been a few years since I've been to the Grand Canyon, but I remember thinking it almost didn't seem "real", but was a painting.

Sorry, Mark, but this is Canyonlands, near Moab, Utah. Parts of it are certainly similar to Grand Canyon. Thanks for your comments.

Nice shots, Stan. I drove down the Shafer Trail once (key word: "once"). I've never been so scared in a vehicle in my life!

Man I love those shots. I wished we had terrain like that around here to shoot.

I appreciate all comments.

flyfisher, let me know if I can provide any info for your trip to Utah. While I'm no expert, I have been there numerous times.

Scott - My wife refused me the opportunity to drive Shafer Trail, insisting we needed 4-wheel drive. (I've taken her on a few trails that were at least that scary, and she won't let me forget it.)
