View Full Version : Capturing Cajun Life

I tried to capture the feeling of being cajun. Lots of family "endless" table of boiled crawfish.
It was horribly underexposed but I shoot raw so it wasnt so bad. (I was at a family crawfish-boil so the obligatory 7-12 beers were had)
Let me know what you think.

LOL we filled the table up like that 3 different times. We boiled close to 200 pounds of crawfish. There were about 40 people there so they went quick. I didn't even eat any. I was too busy catching up with family and enjoying the fire water. When I decided to eat they were all gone! haha that will teach me.

Here is a copy unsharpened. I didn't notice much of a difference. Hopefully it is better.:D

BTW the girl at the end of the table on the left can put more crawfish down than anyone I know. INCLUDING any man. She is my sister and I love her, as long as she stays away from my crawfish.

nice shot, but I wonder how it'd look if you stopped the lens down a bit to get a wide depth of field so the ones up front weren't so blurred. Almost makes my eyes feel funny seeing the back in focus and looking slightly down to see the blurred portion as well.

El,
Thanks, The light was fading so I was kinda limited. But looking back there was a lot I could have done. It was shot at F/4 1/250th and ISO 100. I could have bumped up the ISO. I didn't want to shoot slower than 1/250th.(alcohol was taking effect) It was also the look I was going for, like the table just keeps on going.

My Mom's family is from Lafayette and Morgan City.
I grew up in MS near New Orleans.
My Grandfather would take me to NO and we would eat at Antoine's and Galatoire's
I worked in Slidell in the early 80's.
We would go to a fish camp on the Honey Island swamp and have fish fries, scrimp boils and
Bar-B-Q goat. You can eat better a gas station in Louisiana than you can at most restaurants around the country. --Thanks

NEC,
I am just a stones throw from MS, I am in Houma. My wife is from Lafayette.
stoney,
Yes, I was lucky I remembered where the shutter release was. The party lasted well into the night, as usual. It is wonderful to have a large family that is so close. Pretty common place in South Louisiana.

LOST; Nice Photo
I've done similar crawfish boils hundreds of times during my 45 years from being born and having lived in Houma. Must be the water!
Your picture brought back fond memories.

Is that name in reference to LSU? I am a huge LSU fan. The baseball team played Nicholls tonight and won 3-2. I will be posting a couple pics later if you are interested I will have a lot more on my website. PM me for the address.

Buddy,
Yep, I'm an LSU graduate and still follow them very closely. The LSU alumni chapter in the greater Tampa, Fl. area has more than a thousand members and the 16th. of April is our annual crawfish boil. About 600 will show up. Man, you know how many crawfish that is, not to speak about the cases of DIXIE beer that will be there (for a while at least).
I was born and raised in Houma and moved to Florida in 1986 and absolutely love it. I talked to Billy Tauzin (ex congressman) last week and he told me I should be glad that I don't own any property in Terrebonne Parish anymore because there won't be a Terrebonne Parish much longer due to the coastal erosion of the gulf area. I lalso pop up the Courier on the internet every day and keep up with some of the local stuff.
Look at my member info on this site and everything is there.
A Cajun Forever,

Yes LSU has a strong Alumni base. I spoke with Billy Sr. and Billy Jr. recently and they are both strongly pushing the coastal errosion issue. Hopefully something will get done about it.
I really enjoyed your site. Some great work there.
Tried to PM you but couldnt so I sent you an email.
