View Full Version : Video Resizing with Max Quality?

I have an MPEG2 file that is about 500MB. How do I resize this to meet the 100MB max requirement of YouTube and still retain the best video quality?

I know how to do this in terms of photo image resizing to meet the POTN posting requirement, so there's gotta be a simple process for the video resizing regardless of what video editing software I'm using. Thank you in advance.

Youtube has upped the file size now that they accept HD movies.

You can also host on Vimeo (up to 1gb).

You need to be saving in H.264 .mp4 format. Make sure you keep the Fps rate the same as the original video.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. :)

I've been using YouTube all this time, and I didn't even know that they've upped the limit to 1GB!! :)

Just to test the YouTube's "1GB" limit out of curiosity, I intentionally uploaded a 750MB Mpeg2 file that was processed in 720p "preset" in the Pinnacle Studio.

Why is it, though, that the HD viewing on YouTube works flawlessly at one time and breaks (halts) every few seconds the second time, and so on with no consistency? Is this something that I've done on my end or is the problem more on their end?

I think YouTube might be having some issues with the HD yet to sort out. A couple of channels I have subscribed to have switched to HD for their episodes, and have been reporting various issues with inconsistent uploading.

Thanks for the info. It's good to know that the problem isn't from my end....

Your video on YouTube also halts every few seconds. Mine, by the way, was 6 minutes and 45 sec. Here it is if anyone's interested:

The problem is ONLY with the HD viewing and not the YouTube's default viewing....

i like that music!!

there are some de-interlacing artifacts there, did you use wmv as the master for uploading?

i'm not seeing any hiccups on any youtube hd file playback, at least not today anyway, lol

I don't know what "de-interlacing artifacts" is, so I can't detect the way you can. Here's the process:

1) The AVCHD files are transferred to my PC from the Canon HG10 HDD camcorder.

2) Using the Pinnacle Studio 12 Ultimate, I used the 720p from the preset menu and saved the file to Mpeg2. The video you saw came to about 750mb and 6 minutes and 45 seconds using the preset, and since YouTube now allows up to 1GB and 10 minutes, I simply uploaded the whole file to YouTube.

My boy's (the one on my YouTube video) performance is getting longer and longer, so I'll need to eventually figure out how to "compact" the video length and the size....

when you look at his right arm moving back and forth, there are some horizontal lines along the outside edge of his arm... that's deinterlacing artifacts.

does pinnacle have an option for putting out an mpeg4 file? avc or similar? you want the highest profile possible, 5.1 if you can, and be sure to set the deinterlacing filter on, if there is one.

O yea, I remember seeing something funny going on on his right arm, and I thought that was something that was caused by YouTube....

Yes, the Pinnacle has mpeg4 option, so I'll try that next time. I'll also look and see if it has the deinterlacing filter. Thanks, that was helpful! :)
