View Full Version : Hiring Canon Lenses in the UK?

Has anyone hired Canon lenses in the UK, or know anywhere that hires?

I'm hesitant to take my first steps into L-series ownership without resolving a big dilemma - 70-200 f2.8L IS vs. 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS

My "gut feel" is that the 70-200, perhaps with a 1.4 tc for moments when I need a little extra reach is all I would need. I'm looking for a big upgrade in quality over the 75-300 I currently have... and I'd like an IS lens if possible also!

I don't want to lay out the most money I would ever have spent on a lens, without proving to myself that I'd be happy with my choice and the end results.

Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Your best bet IMHO would be a branch of Calumet. Nice people to deal with too.

jfred and all...

I really got myself in a mix with lenses at the moment. I guess I am playing catch up and trying to get bang up to date too quickly. Flitting from one thing to another.

My main area of interest is landscape photography, but also want the flexibility for wildlife. What L lense should I be considering?

FWIW I second using Jessops, their 28 day exchange is great, so long as you don't abuse it. But if you look after the lense and give it a few outings, they are happy to change it over for you, after all it is a big investment.

You must be mad to pay Jessops prices though. Unless they have them in stock (highly unlikely for an L lens), they won't consider a price match.

Well, they have always price matched for me, even if they have to order in an item specially :-)

BTW - nice shots on your website Marc, the Sunset over Rothesay is stunning.
