Good day everyone,
This is my first post. I have been a long time user of the Pro1. Unfortunately this cam died, and Canon is unable to repair it, so I will be uptrading to the G10.
I have been a long time Lexar memory user. Since the G10 does not use CF, I am forced to upgrade my memory with this transition.
Which memory is optimized for this camera?
I was in FutureShop yesterday and came across the Lexar Professional 4GB 133X SDHC Class 6 Memory Card. Is this overkill for this camera? It's on sale this week.

Let me know your thoughts?
Thanks,
Jason

I carry 4 gig SDHC sandisk ultra II's, I don't know how much they have in common with the cf cards of the same type and size, but after using them for thousands and thousands of pictures without a single problem, it was an easy choice. Enjoy the g10, it is the best thing I have spent my camera money on in years.

Class 4 is plenty..... Its gets real trick with udma cards but I don't know if the G10 utilizes that feature...

Thanks - I'm excited about it - although I will miss my Pro1, I am definately looking forward to getting the G10. Hopefully I will have it before next weekend.
Has anyone used OCZ SDHC memory?
OCZ SD High Capacity (SDHC) cards comply with the new SDA 2.00 specification to support capacities over 2GB. Available in 4GB and 8GB configurations, OCZ SDHC cards are ideal for the latest digital cameras and electronics.
Compliant with specifications determined by the SD Association, OCZ SDHC cards are rated either Speed Class 4 or 6. SDHC Class 6 cards are rated for at least 6MB/s, while Class 4 memory ensures a minimum of 4MB/s. These high capacity cards are only compatible with SDHC compliant products and are not backwards compatible with traditional SD format devices. More and more next generation devices are expected to host SDHC.
OCZ's commitment to quality continues into their flash memory series; All OCZ Secure Digital HC Cards come backed with a 3 year warranty for unparalleled peace of mind.
I can pickup 8 GB class 6 for $29.99 here.

I'm using a Kingston 16GB card. Its very fast. I just spent a few days on vacation and took about 600 pictures saving as RAW+jpg and still had 5 gig left. I basically never have to take the card out of the camera.

I agree, I seldom fill a 4 gig before reloading. pelican makes nice waterproof cases about the size of a wallet, the sd one will hold 8 cards! The cf one holds 4.

I've got a couple Sandisk SDHC 8GB cards, nothing special.

It makes me nervous when folks talk about all of their shots on one card. The conveinience is certainly nice and the failure rate is very low but if you drop, get mugged, leave your camera on the plane. . . you have lost EVERY shot. I think folks are better off with a couple of 4 or 8gb cards.
Yeah, but these SD cards are so darn small, I feel like I'm much less likely to lose it if it stays in the camera and doesn't get switched out. I do generally download all the pictures to a computer at the end of each day just in case of failure, loss, etc.

But does the G10 take full advantage of the class 6 cards - or is it just piece of mind buying the fastest cards on the market?

no the G10 does not take advantage of the speed. it can only right to the cards so fast, so you might as well save your money. i dont have any links to back that statement up...but iv read it in a few different places now

I've got some Lexar 8gb Platinum II 60x that work fine. I never checked into what speed the G10 was best with, I already had these when I bought the G10.

You'll only notice a faster card when you shoot raw and when you upload to your PC.
Even if you shoot raw you can get several pics off before the buffer is full even with a class 2 card. But, considering how cheap fast cards are now it's pretty much a moot point; just buy a fast card for cheap.

I just posted about this here:
http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=620172
Short version: if you shoot raw, not just any class 6 will be as fast as the G10. If you only shoot jpeg/video, a cheap class 6 card should do.

For my G10, I'm using a Lexar Professional 8GB 133X (Class 6) as my main card and a Sandisk Ultra II 8GB (Class 4) as my backup.

Ben,
For others considering a purchase of similar cards, if you shoot continuously in RAW, do you see the frame rate drop with either of those cards?

I normally don't shoot RAW continuously, but I tried it today with both cards and did not tell a difference in frame rate.
