formatting CF?

I just bought by A40 last week and trying to learn it's features. I also bought a Sandisk CF 128MB and dual card reader. I was trying to download pix to my laptop using the card reader. However, I can't and was it asking if I want to format the CF. My question is do I need to format the CF before I can use it with the reader? Do I format using the camera or the computer? Please help. Thanks.

The camera should have formated it. IF you format it now, you will most likely lose all the images on it, so don't do that.

It sounds liek the camera works...you have pictures on the card? If you just say "no" when it asks you to format the card, what happens?
