Stopped by the Iwo Jima Memorial in Newington Connecticut today and took some shots. Considering it was overcast and rainy I don't think they came out to bad.

Noticed it was a little difficult to read the markers in the last frame so I thought I blow it up a little

(maybe they are made in china)http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
oops
I don't see any dates on the plaques,
which is unusual ( for a plaque)
maybe I just can't see it properly yet Sandy

I remember when the vets were fund raising for that monument. It was long overdue but they finally got their recognition. That's got to be the most famous war photo of all time.

Nice Sandy, thanks for sharing these. Is this statue a replica of the one in Arlington, or is it unique?
(maybe they are made in china) oops
Sadly, that might be true Marie.
That's got to be the most famous war photo of all time.
Yeah, it's kind of cool for our forum purposes that the subject material is based on a very famous photograph.

Very Nice. Thank you for sharing them with us. They do look very good for such a gloomy day.

? ? ? ?
Not really Marie, the politics were only getting the State to Name the Highway behind the Memorial the Iwo Jima Memorial Expressway
Thought I had posted this, but it didn't go through, It was in response to HJM's question
Yes it is unique in it's own way. here is a link explaining it

thanks Sandy
just meant it could be politics here and maybe could get serious at any moment

even flag waving can be political a lot of the time
I think

ps
no worries
saw it and said it just after posts about John Paul were locked
otherwise I love discussions about politics
even just to read points of view
but it can get too heated sometimes
so I can understand 'locked',
sometimes

Not to worry Marie. I'm a news and political junkie myself, and never take offense of others opinions. Nothing really to political that I could see about a Memorial to the people who served in the Marines and Navy and played a decisive part in a WW-II battle.
I would hope that any hard feelings and bitterness has long past.

Thank you! It's very touching to be near it and to see it up close. the Photos really don't do it justice. Just to the top of the base is over 6'. it is massive.

Nice photos. Fitting memorials. Very nice Indian Jet Black Granite (I am in the business). ;) I'll be going to DC later this month and look forward to the opportunity to shoot there.

Thanks for posting these. They did turn out quite well for an overcast day. The comment on being a famous war picture is interesting because I showed it to the wife and we both agree we are use to seeing it from the other side....weird huh?
And I don't think it's politics. It's Amercan history. A history I pray we never forget nor have to repeat.

please don't get me wrong
make no mistakes I loved the shots
just that same day other posts had been locked and I couldn't really see why but yet understood
(if that sounds balmy, well, so be it)
so I decided to say nothing here in case it got into a political discussion
also want to say almost every country has been to and been at war at some time , has suffered and has many hero's, unknown and known
lovely to see them remembered

The bright colors in the flags offset the dreary sky. I think it looks great...but then again I may be a little biased because of the subject...I really like the third shot also.

Thanks for the comments adam & prometheus1, it's very humbling and inspiring when you are there at the memorial.
