I took this shot last year while on vacation and visiting the Seattle Library .. only took the one shot, but it turned out to be one of my favorites .. reminds me of piano keys. I'm a newbie ... C&C welcome!

It is a interesting shot. Very different than what is normally posted. For some reason I really like it.

Very nice composition: lines, angles, lighting, balance. I'd clone out the base of the metal stand at the top, and the protruding object on the right near the top, keeping it clean and simple. Cheers, Tony

No worries... you weren't as lazy as me, so I squeezed in in front :-). Cheers.

Definitely get rid of those distracting features. I think this would be a very surreal looking shot without them. Interesting interesting interesting.

Thank you everyone for your comments -- I should have caught that myself, duh. I'll fix the photo tonight and repost. I'm glad you all enjoyed the shot!

I tried my hand at PS since I really didn't want to lose any of the photo to cropping .. how'd I do?

Beautiful... looks more peaceful now, in keeping with the warm lighting and soft tonality. Great result. Friend keeps asking me to visit Seattle, now I can tell him I have a good reason ;-). Cheers, Tony

Thank you Tony .. I just joined this site several days ago and am enjoying it so much. Until a few days ago, I had never used the camera on anything other than automatic (I'm loathe to admit, lol), but I'm determined to learn and there is a wealth of information here!

Well, you're off to a great start. Nothing wrong with automatic either... I shoot in P mode a lot, which is basically like automatic except I can write RAW files instead of JPEG and override the settings when I want to... unless you're finding the settings reverting to something inconvenient for a series of shots, not much point moving to manual modes. But, others will disagree entirely, and think M is the deep end of the pool we should all learn to swim in. Important thing is that you're enjoying it and not letting such technical trivia stop you getting the shot you see in your imagination. Good composition trumps technique 99 times out of 100 (more with a tripod and still scene), but is harder to learn and mature. Cheers, Tony

I'm going to have to read up about using RAW instead of jpeg and play with that next!

I'm sure you'll enjoy Seattle -- here's a photo from the biggest tourist spot there... the Pike Place Market. These shots were taken with a Rebel XT and the Tamron zoom ... on automatic of course, lol.
