I'm sick of being shown up by mlav on my turf! So here are some shots from DTW today.

Got the chance to try out my new 40D for the first time, moved up from my XTi. All shots were taken with the 70-200 2.8 IS.

Probably, DTW is the same thing everyday.

Oh....that's a pity as they're nice, clean shots.

So, your next mission (if you choose not to flush it down the toilet!) is to take some other shots and post those up for us to see!
:D

Do you want me to come over there and give you extra homework?!?!

It's still just a plane!

I really like the angle of the Lufthansa shot. Holy freakin' tires.

Going out to my parents on Lake MI for a few days, have you ever shot SW MI Regional Airport (Benton Harbor, code BEH)? I might check it out.

Never have at Benton Harbor, looks like not a whole lot going on there. You may want to try GRR while your out that way.

There are pilots out of there that fly 100 feet up in small planes (Cessna 172s?) over the lake shore and under the bluff. I could blast them with a rock flying over my family hanging out on the beach.

(And what's wrong with shooting and posting planes? I swear if I see another Subie/Evo/Lambo thread I'll barf...they're just cars.)

Ignore the rabble... :p

Keep posting 'em! You have a fan base!!

I wondered if I'd get an arse-kicking from you for that comment ;)

What I meant was that A2EVOMR's recent posts have all been of aircraft landing/taking-off....whereas a while back, we saw some awesome a Mitsubishi and Subaru sliding around in the snow.

Really excellent and exciting pictures.....so I was "requesting" more like those....

Don't think of it as an arse-kicking...

Think of it more as a vote of confidence in our friend A2EVOMR's skills as an aviation photographer.

Us "wing nuts" are severly outnumbered here by the automobile types so we have to stick together. Now I'll grant you that a large jet on final isn't the most dynamic of subjects, but there is an art to tail spotting and I'll bow to his knowledge of which birds are common and which are rare at Detroit.

Personally, I think the hobby "cross pollination" is kind of cool. I've never been a die-hard N number peeper but kudos to those that are.

I have no doubt that if he were standing on the same hotel balcony from which I shot my KATL images, he'd have bagged a whole bunch of keepers!!

Don't worry, I wasn't taking it seriously. :D

Of course, there is plenty of skill involved, and indeed, an "art" to taking perfect shots time and time and time and time and time and time and time again, of aircraft taking-off and landing (don't forget, my father was in the RAF so I've luckily been up in a huge number of jets, helicopters and transporters. I love aircraft!!!) but A2EVOMR's shots of CARS(!) were, IMO, an area we do with more....then, it'll encourage the static Lambo togs to ask the owners to drive them around in circles while they shoot away at 6.5fps.....

Well thanks for your comments about my shots at the Sno*Drift Rally skygod, unfortunately that only comes around once a year. The airport is always here!

While there are a somewhat decent amount of planes at KGRR, most of them are Embraers, CRJ's, 737's and some A319's. The times I've been there I've never seen a 747 there. Even when I was working on the airport property I don't even recall any 747's except of course the Prez's. If you happen to be there during the Muskegon airshow sometime (in July maybe) you can get some great pics of military jets coming/going/showing off. They always parked at the hangar across from us. If the airspace isn't busy when they come back the tower lets them show off a bit.
