The magic brown fairy just gave me most of my lighting stuff
2 umbrellas
2 lightstands
2 brackets
2 vivitar 285hvs
2 Sb-4
random sync stuff...

On the way I have coming
2 vivitar 283s ($45 for both!)
cactus trigger and receiver
optical slaves

Stuff im going to get soon
10 foot stand
bigger umbrellas
2 more sb-4s for the vivitar 283s

Someday.....

Now you need to rig up some modeling lights so you can see what these flash units will do when they fire. That is unless you don't mind shooting, looking at the LCD screen, adjusting the lights, shooting again, looking at the LCD screen, adjusting the lights, shooting, looking at the LCD screen, etc, etc, etc.

Too bad you didn't get a couple of a/c units that already have modeling lights and the flash brackets.

or you can do it a few times and get used to it.
I take Strobists way of doing it. 200ss, 400 iso, 5.6 aperature. its a fantastic starting point for any situation. normally only takes 1 or 2 shots after that, and ive only been doing this for a few months now with creative lighting.

lol thats how it came i guess they put in the studs wrong both of them came the same way O.o

It is well known that the studs sometimes arrive upside down. You're not the first :D

Because the umbrella shaft should slot into the bracket above the middle joint.

I just received mine today. The studs were also in wrong. I'm glad I saw this thread before. It probably saved me some time and confusion.
