Here is one of the many shots with the ExpoDisc. It works very well for me.

I've been using the expodisc as well and have been very happy with the results.

That shot looks very nice, the white balance looks accurate, but I've also used the coffee filter trick (use a white coffee filter in the same way you'd use the ExpoDisc). The coffee filter also gives me great results.

I'm not convinced that an ExpoDisc, which costs between $80 and $130 (depending on the size) according to ExpoDisc's website, is so much better than a simple coffee filter which costs virtually nothing.

I've never had a complaint with the pringles lid either. I love it. Of course, I didn't know about the coffee filter trick prior to purchasing, but since I'm already out the money, I'll keep it in the process.

Next thing I have to get is that tupperware flash cover.

Ok I will be the dope that admits it: I am not 100% sure how to pull off either the Pringle Lid or the Coffee Filter trick. Do you just rubber band the filter on the lens and shoot a single frame and use it as the custom WB? Or is there more to it than that.

You know, I have thought about trying this many times. But I always have the message obstacle. You know, when you are trying to take a phone message and you either have a pen but no paper or paper but no pen. It seems that I either have a coffee filter and not my camera or my camera and not a coffee filter.

Maybe God is trying to tell me that I should just get an ExpoDisc.

Some refer to the ExpoDisc as the 'pringles lid' (though I think some have used an actual pringles lid and claim it works). I bought the ExpoDisc and use it regularly. I've never had any regret whatsoever over spending the money. It's a nifty little tool that produces excellent results.

I've never tried a coffee filter. Maybe an actual side by side WB test is in order.

Put the lens on manual focus, hold the white coffee filter, Pringles lid or ExpoDisc in front of it, point in the direction of the light source, shoot and use that frame to set the custom WB on your camera. Remember to switch the lens back to AF...
