What a cute little kid! Next time may be try bouncing the flash to the ceiling otherwise it gives those unflattering harsh shadows.

Or if you don't have a flash w/ a swivel, try to put a piece of paper on front to bounce the flash. In theory it sounds like it could work but haven't tried it myself. So, I could just be speaking out of my butt. :)
