So I had purchased a RC-1 for my XSi and when I sold it I kept the remote thinking it would work with either the 5D or 50D .. But I dont think it does ..
I was wondering what remote whether it be wireless or not does the camera take and which one are recommended? Thanks guys!

Click on the P.O.T.N. Support Shop above, they have a replacement for the RS-80N3 for 29.99, bought one to use with my 50D and it works great.

Glad to know I can use the same remote for both cameras ...
It doesnt matter if I go with the Opteka vices the Canon or POTN replace one or does it?

Well, the POTN one helps support the forum, and the wired POTN version has a connector in-line so you can extend it easily with a mini-stereo headset extension cable. It'll work with either the 5D or 50D (or any other Digital EOS but the Rebel line).

the model I bought from POTN is wireless and I have used it from about 50 feet away, claims it will work from farther but haven't confirmed that. I used it set up by my bird feeder while I observed from the house.

I'm working on a Lightning detector and require a simple interface. The POTN shop doesn't mention compatability with the 50D.

This (http://www.procameragear.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/30/products_id/157) is the POTN one. The 50D takes the same N3 as the 40D, 5D, etc. All that absence of the 50D on the list reflects is that the page hasn't been updated since it was released.

Not sure about the 50D or older 5D, but just because I have one, I can safely say that the RC-1 remote works perfectly well with the 5Dm2.

The RC-1 is IR and the 5D II is the only non-Digital Rebel EOS it will work with to date. All the other prosumer and pro models work only with devices that have the N3 connector.

Jon, I did not know this. Interesting. I used the RC1 with my 300D and just assumed it worked on most modern Canon slrs.

That's nailed a lot of people moving up. Fortunately the RC remotes are fairly cheap, so not a big loss to the unfortunates stuck with them (OTOH, not much of a Used market for them as stand-alone offers - shipping could run the cost over a new one). ISTR the RC1 also allows you to trigger video on the 5D2.
