So I have been on my journey for about 3 months now and thus far I hate using anything else but flash .. however I'm starting to see some portraits and shoots that i will like to venture in. I was wondering if anyone can help me put a portable lighting system ...

One that can serve for portraits and street shoots ..

I just have a Canon 50D and 5D I will mostly be shooting with the soon to be in my bag 85 L which will break my pockets ..so might be looking for a good setup fairly inexpensive ... but as long as its portable .. hey its all good ...

thanks for the help!

you just got a 50D, 5d and 85L all in a week. wow! talk about splurging. :) if you want portable lighting, your best bet would be to use speedlights (430ex, 580ex2, etc...), if you want the cheaper ones you can go for vivitars or sunpaks.
or you can go the strobes(monolights) route. alienbees ( www.alienbees.com ) would be more portable than the genesis. but with this setup then you'll need the vegabond if you want portability.

any of these setups will have to be triggered wirelessly or using sync cords.

EDIT: btw, are you free on any of the weekends after the 22nd? ill be in maryland maybe we can go to DC for the cherry blossom fest and shoot some photos there.
