View Full Version : (Air) Waiter, There's A Fly In My Moon...

The moon was perpendicular to and just about at glideslope level over at the local airstrip. I had hoped to get a nice, fat sillouette of someone landing but the only approach was an awful "rag it over the fence" and they flew under the moon.
I did get this by "accident" however...

I think it's a new route offered by Southwest Airlines...
Dude that's SO cool.
Pretty lucky catch when you consider the dynamics. It's a really big sky up there surrounded by a whole lot more space.
"to the moon alice!" nice shot :-)
Bang! Zoom... Thanks Ryan.

Thanks Muchly...
I'm already thinking about where I can go to get the moon behind commercial jets that are inbound to Sky Harbor Intl... ;)

I was listening to the tower freq when this A/C was on takeoff...
Roger Murdock: Flight 2-0-9'er, you are cleared for take-off.
Captain Oveur: Roger!
Roger Murdock: Huh?
Tower voice: L.A. departure frequency, 123 point 9'er.
Captain Oveur: Roger!

Victor Basta: Request vector, over.
Captain Oveur: What?
Tower voice: Flight 2-0-9'er cleared for vector 324.
Roger Murdock: We have clearance, Clarence.
Captain Oveur: Roger, Roger. What's our vector, Victor?
Tower voice: Tower's radio clearance, over!
Captain Oveur: That's Clarence Oveur. Over.
Tower voice: Over.
Captain Oveur: Roger.
Roger Murdock: Huh?

Sometimes, it's better to be lucky than good... I agree with that, but you chose your spot with foresight & waited for this "happy accident", which puts the shot in a completely different category & that's something we don't see enough of in here.
Very nice work!

That's great Wardie. Yours is actually more like what I had in mind when I walked out the door last night. The one plane that did come in to land was just lower than the moon.

Great shot. I can't wait to get some decent long lenses again to try this sort of stuff.
