Nice, I like the swimming shot.
Where were these shots taken (personal interest)?

Thanks!
The flowers I took outside our house, there's an empty lot with lots of wild flowers and plants.. while the swimming shot was taken at the country club.. here in Manila. :D

My wife is from Baguio, the reason I was interested in where they were taken.

We are in England now, about 1 hour from London.
Have been to Manila, about 8 years ago, and of course to Baguio. I remember Manila as being very hot, plus lots of Gekko's on the walls of the cafe we stopped at before taking the bus to Baguio.
Plan to return some day to visit relatives and of course take some great photographs of the beautiful country.

Can you handhold the 100-400 because of the IS, or is it an absolute must to use a tripod/monopod?
Jon

Depends on the conditions. You'll do better with a tripod under all conditions, but anyhow from 1/125 on up (YMMV) you're probably OK without.

Yep, as long as it's bright out, you're ok without a tripod/monopod.. I took both shots without either :D
DavoMrMac,
There are a LOT of great stuff to take around here.. especially some of the old Spanish villages that are still around... and yes, it IS very hot.. especially now :P

Can't wait for the weekend to really try this out :D
Should there be anything I should remember/watch out for using this lens?

I just got mone yesterday as well. Took this photo in my backyard. Distance from the (tiny) flowers was about 15 feet, focal length 400mm (equivalent to 640mm), and shutter speed was 1/100 @ f8, hand-held with IS on. Rebel XT. Photo resized for web only. No other corrections. I think this is simply remarkable. Not the photo; the ability to take the photo at this shutter speed and focal length. Also, the lens has excellent bokeh.

You might try taking a series of shots with IS on and active to see if it locks up in any way. I found that in tracking a woodpecker, after about the 3rd shot, I'd get Err99, Err01, or a lock-up with the exposure information lit up. Removing the lens cleared it, but I'm calling Canon about it. I believe others have posted about similar issues with it. Happened with both my 20D and my D60. I'm wondering if they can't provide enough sustained power to the lens.

Did you save anything by getting it from Dell? I'm trying to find the best place to buy it too. So far B&H seems to be about the best price. Anyone know of a better deal on this lens? Thanks!

you guys in the US think yourselves lucky - the best price I can get here in the UK for this awesome lens is £840 delivered - that works out at about $1600!!!!!
What sort of prices are you paying Stateside?
hickory

ouch! $1600.00 is about the going price at Dell before they had the screw up, I just got mine there for $1271 with tax and free shipping. I think B&H is around $1350.00 normal tho.
That makes it 675.83 pounds I guess??

ha ha! As old as the hills, this US v UK prices debate. Heartened to say the gap is lessening though, $1350 from B&H is only about £150 cheaper than my supplier.
Could almost justify a flight to the US on the back of that, though!!

malla, you can get the lens for £830 from a lot of places, including an international warranty - I'm sure with a quick browse you can find somewhere to get it from without the inconvenience of going through the rigmarole of buying from the US.

£1039 is the best i can find on this side of the atlantic (7 day shop)next to that is ebay
hong kong but the post kills it and no international warranty.as i am going to new york anyway no post and no vat just new york sales tax.i will allso pic up a ef 100 2.8 macro and a few other bits.back to ebay even if you get one of a usa seller you still need a shop recipt
for canon to accept warranty, warranty card is not worth a ****e on its own.a mate of mine got a flash from a usa ebay seller with international warranty card but no sales recipt, without it you cant even prove when you got it.
