Hi,i usually shoot sports and wildlife but occasionally i am asked to do some portraits.
I have had a look around and discovered that Lastolite do a bracket called a triflash that will allow upto 3 camera flashguns to be mounted on a lighting stand and allow the use of umbrellas.
I am asking you experts whether it would be worth my while to buy two of these and use them with my 580 in one and a vivitar 283 slaved in the other.

Many thanks...Pete

It really depends on what and where you will be shooting. A single 580 shot into an umbrella can be used for many things but if you are trying to overpower a lot of ambient light then the additional flash could help. That said, if I were in that type of situation I would more likely ditch the umbrella and shoot direct.

The triflash will work but there are cheaper options. The standard attachment is http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/546375-REG/Manfrotto_by_Bogen_Imaging_026_026_Swivel_Umbrella _Adapter.html and get the cold shoe mount that shows up in the "accessories" tab at the bottom. No need to get the Manfrotto brand if you prefer to go cheaper. They all work about the same.

One advantage of using the standard swivel mount is that it will work with any lights you may upgrade to in the future
