Alan, very sharp white tiger shots! What lens did you use for those shots?

There are no white tigers in wild (only one was found in 1951). All white tigers in zoos are inbreeds. The condition (white) occurs when inbreeding produces offspring with two copies of a recessive gene. The roadside zoos and circus shows inbreed these tigers to produce white tigers (for money). However, inbreeding often also leads to birth defects and most are killed at birth.

oneguyks - thanks for bringing up that tidbit of information. In order to excite the public, the white tigers have been billed as "royal". I think I once read that it takes 80 white tiger cubs to get one that can be shown to the public. The rest suffer from physical deformaties and/or mental weaknesses. Very sad! It isn't the animal's fault but I will not pay to see white tigers ever again nor will I photograph them unless it is to help dispel the myths of the "royal" white tiger.

Now I'll get off my soapbox.
