View Full Version : Macro ring flashes...Worth it?

Hi All,

I have a 40D w/ 100mm USM setup for doing macro shots. My question is, is getting one of the ring-style flashes for this a worthwhile investment? I don't currently have any external lighting aside from the pop-up flash, which I find *generally* useless without bringing macro into it.

Thanks in advance,
-E

Snydremark,
I personally wouldn't find it worth it for use with the 100mm lens.
My suggestion is to get a 430ex or 580ex hot shoe mount flash. They give more then enough power for use with the 100mm f/2.8 macro lens. These flashes are also perfect for most other type of photography ;)

Thanks for the input; that is sort of what I was suspecting, but I wanted to hear from some more experienced folk.
