Been lurking on this forum for way too long. lol. I was thinking about getting a g7/g9 but i dont have enough money to get one.

A friend of mine got a G9 that's broken. He dropped it and it died on him.
It still turns on but the lens wont retract. He asks me if i would be willing to buy it from him cheap. After googling around for 1 full day, I still could not find a store that sell replacement parts for canon.

Anyone here knows where to get some? other than ebay or craigslist of course.

Thanks so much !

Try contacting one of Canon's service centers. There is one in Irvine CA and another in New Jersey. If you Google CanonUSA and navigate through the consumer section you should find a way to contact them.

The best course of action would be to send the camera to Canon service center to assess damage.

Usually they quote cost of repair, but if it exceeds the value of camera they might offer exchange for different cam through their customer loyalty program.

If you want to attempt the repair yourself (not recommended), you'll need to get another not working cam to cannibalise parts, providing they are good on the other one.

Good luck

i was thinking about taking it apart. i never took apart a camera before and i think it would be a great experience for me.

Anyway after checking it out and assuming the lens wont retract.
Let's assume it's something to do with the lens mechanism.
After reviewing:

I think it might not be the best idea to take it apart. haha.
Well, will do it anyway if he 's going to give it to me for free.
