Good for those that do not travel with a computer, but I think a lot of us travel with laptops and off load photos that way.

The problem is,
I am 14 and I only have a computer at my mums, I visit there each week end and I don't have a computer at my dads.
So yeah :)
Thanks ;)

Seems like a good investment then if you find you are shooting a lot of pictures. Another alternative at this point would be to look at a netbook like Acer Aspire One or MSI Wind.
Which is a full laptop for just a bit more.

Actually :D our school is giving us all netbooks halfway through the year.
:D:D:D Haha Im Excited
So anyway I guess another car might be a good idea and when I get the Netbook from school just use that :)
Thanks ;)

Good for even those who travel with a laptop. When I was travelling Id take both (older hd-80 hyperdrive and a laptop) as a backup. I might lose either HD, but the odds of losing both is less. It will be nice when 128 and 256gb CF starts coming out and is inexpensive as these devices will be able to get smaller and a bit lighter, but mainly more fault resistant.

I have looked at these before, and I like the design, especially as I have a couple of the hard drives laying around (only 30gb +-) but still enough to back up all of my CF cards. the thing is that I have never run out of memory with my 5 4gb cards! ... so at this point I am thinking I better put my money elsewhere.
I agree that this is perfect as a backup device while travelling.

In the case of wanting a backup while traveling with a laptop, it would be much cheaper for the amount of space to just get a small external hard drive.
But if you like the screen and those features, I see how the hyperdrive like products would be nice.

I've had 3 generations of hyperdrives. They have all been reliable and I would recommend them without reservations. They are meant to serve as a convenient backup device. With CF cards being as inexpensive as they are, I typically have a supply of them while shooting. I will download the files from the CF to the hyperdrive for backup. I keep the files on the CF until I download them onto my computer. This way I always have two copies of my files. The hyperdrive allows me to leave my laptop at home.

I have the 80 Gb Hyperdrive Colorspace O and it works pretty well, easy to put a larger hard drive if you want to upgrade. What I don't like is the buttons feel a little cheap and the menu takes some getting used to. It's a bit of a pain to navigate the menus with the button layout.

Interesting :)
I don't think I will use it for now, basiclly I just go out and take a few pics and that.
If I later decide to do something else like photo shoots or something I might consider it.
For now I will just grab another card :D
Thanks ;)

I prefer a PSD so I don't have to have the laptop with me all the time (though a netbook might replace PSD's for me). PSD lives in my bag with camera gear, and I can offload onto the PSD while out and about. I get back to hotel/friends house/whatever and sync PSD and laptop, do my DAM and see if i have anything spectacular that I need to edit and post right away (dont I wish). Next day do it again so I have a am at most a day behind. I'm really anal about backups if you couldn't guess, 10 years of IT consulting have made me that way =/.

This brings up questions for me. Right now I have a 13" macbook. I would like a hyperdrive colorspace O as I already have an extra 250gb harddrive.
I like the idea of something smaller than my macbook to be able to edit and post, but I can't imagine doing post process on something much smaller than 10-11" screen.
Netbooks are nice since they are really small, but if you're only going to a hotel room or other area that has power, etc, notebook size to me is a little more irrelevant.
PSDs are great for when you have no power and don't have time to setup a netbook and hassle with it.

getting my Hyperdrive this week!!!
Not the new UDMA one, but for the price I paid for the casing, i think its worth it.

The Hyperdrive advantage is that it fits into a pocket. I use mine as the others do, as a backup to the CF cards that I carry. You can never have enough backups.
I use it when I travel, and am generally involved in a new culture so much that I don't care to see the images on a computer until I get home. The Hyperdrive screen lets me see how images are exposed, etc., if I need info such as that.

I had a leftover 250gb drive from my macbook and just ordered the Colorspace UDMA case only.
I will post a review and install steps/pictures soon as I get it.

I was thinking about getting the bare UDMA case and using a third-party hard drive...any recommendations on a reliable drive (Western Digital, etc)? Came across this one:
Western Digital Scorpio 250 GB (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4338345&CatId=2682)

Seems like one that gets suggested a lot. I've personally had great luck with Western Digital.
