I bought a Canon A95 last week and have been taking a few pictures around this house. I know nothing about photography, but am really excited about this camera. I wish to learn about the settings and how to take great pictures later but right now I am in the "auto" phase. This is a picture I took of one of the flowers in my garden. I thought it turned out well for a rookie but I would love to hear your comments and critiques. Keep in mind I only know how to use the auto settings.

Your Depth of Field is good. Front of flower right to the stamen. Background is really good, shows off the flower well.

Fill flash would have lit the interior of the flower. Photoshop it, brighten a little, not much sharpening required.

Hint for future pictures: Resize before posting, a dial-up would have a looonnng wait with a 1meg JPEG. The 56K warning is to let dial ups know this is a big file. See sticky on posting on the top of the catagory for instructions.

First post is a good one, keep it up.

A really nice shot, actually. You might want to think in this way when photographing flowers: try to make it appear that the light comes from within the flower, rather by being reflected by the flower. That's always been my goal when shooting them. Not always easy to do, of course!

First shot huh? People like you make me wonder if I should be taking up some other hobby.

Very nice shot. Very large, but very nice. Color, DOF, everything works well.

Sorry about the size. I didn't realize. I have now learned to resize before I post. Like I said, I'm new (to photography and posting pics). Thanks for the advice.
