I just got a little studio setup to do portraits and was wondering what people use for an f-stop setting. I have 2 lens that I use. A nifty-fifty and a Sigma 24-70 f/2.8. Should I be using the nifty and set f-stop to around 2.8 or the Sigma and use f/4?

I would like the background to be blurred as I just have some black or white felt as background right now with flash and gels to give it some color.

Any help would be great.

The settings of the camera and choice of focal length would depend on the DOF/perspective you wish to achieve and studio space dimensions.

I'm going to have to play more with it I think. I understand what you're saying.
