I need to replace my modeling light in my alien bee. Can i use any lamp from home depot .Would you recommend 150 watt quartz lamp? Is there a benefit for using quartz?

Do you have more than one AB strobe? If you do then you want the replacement to match the other strobes. If not then you can use any incandescent or halogen bulb and I think Buff recommends using 150W as the maximum if the strobes will be inside of modifiers or have grids in front of them. If you're going to use the strobe bare bulb with just a reflector you can go up to 250W I believe but you can confirm that right on the Alien Bees web site or more than likely someone else will chime in and confirm or correct me.

Look online for 250w halogen bulbs. I wouldn't use that much wattage in a small softbox or behind a grid, but it's fine with an umbrella.
