Pocket Wizard + 580EX

If I only have one pocket wizard mounted onto the camera body, technically it should be able to communicate with the flash unit (without another pocket wizard hooked up to it) because the flash unit has a built-in transceiver. Has anyone tried this?

The pocket wizard uses radio frequency and the 580ex uses infrared so the answer would be no. You need 2 pocket wizards to make the flash wireless or the wireless transmitter from Canon.

yep i knew that i need a pocket wizard for each flash plus one for the body. i just thought perhaps i can save some bucks if what i thought would be possible. ;-) oh well..
