xt / 17-85 kit

does anyone know of respectable prices and shops where i can purchase the rebel xt and the 17-85 lens as a kit?

if i pay approx $500 for this lens, is it worth it, if its my only lens? or should i stick with the orig. 18-55 kit lens?

I am a big fan of the 17-85. If you only have one lens . . . I think this is an excellent choice. I am very happy with the pictures from it and the way it is built and handles. It will shoot close in and yet let you fill a frame with that which you wish. At 'kit' price it is a bargain. You save even more by not investing in the 18-55 which is too small for my one lens tastes. I think you will love it on your XT.
