All,

It’s time for a new contest. This time, I thought I’d give you a choice of topic. The idea with these contests is to make them sufficiently difficult so that they challenge you, but no so much that they put people off from entering. It’s difficult to get this balance right, so I thought I’d put forward three options. The first is my favourite, but the other two would be good contenders as well. I’ve tried to explain what I mean by the first one because it is a somewhat more abstract concept.

I’m nominally running this poll until Friday, but if we get a clear winner before then, I’ll just start the contest.

Cheers,

BB :D

Light- Photographs are about capturing a moment with light. However it is all too easy to take light for granted and so lets have a competition where the focus is on the light itself. What that means in practice is up to you. I am certainly not asking you to do anything that is technically challenging, just think about how light affects the pictures you take. You might simply show how nice a landscape looks as the sunrises, or you could photograph a person using an unusual light source (maybe your father’s face lit by his desk lamp). Perhaps capture shadows of pillars in evening sunlight. Alternatively, you might want to take the title literally and really experiment with unusual things such as splitting light with prisms. Whatever you do, I’d like you to think about the way that you use light in the picture.

the way the poll is going... you might have a contest which incorporates all three concepts into a single image :D

he he! A smiling shape lit in an interesting manner. Now that would be a good competition title! :D

Well it's pretty clear that 'Shapes' won by a hefty margin. The contest page is here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=66803). Good luck everyone! :D
