I stopped at a fire scene on the way to work this morning. The fire was out but there were still alot of trucks and firemen cleaning up, busting windows, hosing down the debris. I hadn't stopped for one before. I was able to see that some of the principles I had learned about taking pictures of people in black actually do apply. NYC Firefighters wear black gear as opposed to yellow in some areas. Those suits like a black tux at a wedding make the camera want to overexpose ambient light and flash like crazy. I dialed down the EC to -1 and the FEC to -1 and everything went fine. Made my morning!
By the way, I was using my new carry bag camera, the G6. It worked great.
