I've got about five hours before I have to be up, getting ready for the first of three flights to Fairbanks, Alaska, for a week trip with two of my brothers. We're hoping to see the northern lights while we're there -- and I'd love to see some eagles. If anyone knows anything about eagles in or around the Chena River area of Alaska at this time of year, I'd looooooove to hear about it. I suspect one of the airports tomorrow (Saturday Mar 14) could be my last internet access for a while, but I'm hoping for at least occasional connectivity while in AK.

Thanks, all!

Shoot lots of images!!No eagles at all, but lots and lots of stars and lights. I posted the best of the aurora pictures (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=666085) in the Astronomy and Celestial sharing section and I'm particularly pleased with a slideshow (http://photos.jgrussell.com/gallery/7692266_aNUK2/1/#497704338_AiG57-A-LB) I put together.

Amazing Aurora shots, not sure I could cope with that cold though.I can't imagine anyone, anyone at all, voluntarily living in a place that gets that cold. Yet there were folks who were obviously thriving. Not me. Oh no. Never again in that kind of cold.

Beautiful series and the slide show was wonderful. Kudos to you for getting these images in that cold...brrrrrr....!!Thanks. We didn't know it was going to be that cold! The typical weather at that time of year is a range of 0F to 20F, not -28F and -60 windchill! We really weren't prepared for it, and I surely won't subject myself to those kinds of temps again if I can help it!!

jgr -- nice work-- thanks for sharing. I LOVE Alaska! Been there many times-- but I time it when it is warm(er) -- end of July-- beginning of Aug-- weather is usually good-- you see sun-- and if you want to fish there is a lot of action.
