Pictorialism - My Take

Hi all,
This is going to be an ongoing project of mine to edit some of my digital files to represent the pictorial movement in photography. Please give me all of your thoughts and critiques, especially if you are familiar with this movement. I am going to also shoot new photos with the intentions of achieving this style. For now though, I am going through some digital files and choosing ones to edit i feel would look well in this style. Thanks and enoy.

I think the noise is too rough in all except the first image. Softening it would probably help your idea.

I will go back and reduce the amount of noise added or add another blur layer over it.

Thanks, that was part of the essense of this movement. Going against everything photography was.

Not particularly keen on these......... all except the Irish Street scene. which IMO is superb. Maybe the subject is better suited to this style? I really don't know enough to comment further.

I love the noise too, but what I meant was it looks a bit too digital.

These are really interesting -- I think the Cathedral picture looks the most like classical pictorialism to me because it has a person in it. The boats are my favorite. The third picture looks too bright or something -- the shadows of the wires on the street somehow take away from the overall affect.

I agree. First two are better but #3 the noise is to perfect. I looks like it was added in post rather than taken that way. I think there is a way to make it less uniform but without PS on the computer Im using I cant tell you how.

I think this is very accurate of the pictorialism effect
