does anybody know if a ET-60 hood from a 55-250mm lens would work as a ET-67 hood on a 100mm macro lens? they are both 58mm and look to be the same size...

Cheers!

I imagine it would since the 100mm range of your macro falls in-between your 55-250 range.

Give it a shot and see if there is any vignetting. I would be surprised if there were.

i would bet vignetting wouldnt be an issue either... does anyone know if the ET-60 hood would even fit proper on a 100mm macro lens? i would go out and buy the actual ET-67 hood, but at $55 for the amount i would really need it, i thought i could maybe use the ET-60 instead... i have a 100mm on order right now, so i cant test out my theory yet...

Thanks!

The number in Canon's lens hood part numbers refers to the nominal diameter of the bayonet mount in millimeters. I seriously doubt that two hoods with a 7mm difference in the mount diameter will be interchangeable.

Maybe. Both the 100mm and the 55-250mm lens have a 58mm diameter. I've mounted the 75-300mm hood onto the 18-55mm, but from 18-24mm the hood gets in the way of the image. Since 100mm is quite a distance from 55mm, it may work, but since I don't have the hoods or the lenses, I can't say.

EDIT: Canon Camera Museum doesn't show what hood goes with what....

The filter diameter has nothing to do with the hood fitting size. As SkipD has said, the number in Canon's hood part number usually refers to the hood bayonet size. The reason you managed to fit the hood from the 75-300mm to the 18-55mm is because they both have a hood with a 60mm hood bayonet. The 100mm macro however has a 67mm hood bayonet.
