Hey guys. First ever live shoot here, be nice!. The venue was terrible - fluorescent office lighting, no stage lighting, stage was tiny and was virtually on same level as crowd... But the sound was mighty nice... So while I didn't have much to work with, I did my best. F2.0/ISO 1600 all day to get 1/160th+

Without further ado...

It's definitely hard to get interesting looking shots in that kind of lighting, but these are not bad at all.

Why thank you! Very kind words.

If anyone is interested, the full set (so far) is here: http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=55778700&albumId=2728066 < First 4 or so images were with 18-200 and flash... Then i realized that was not going to work... Nifty + no flash after that.

Public myspace(don't need an account) + hi quality PNG's (instead of myspaces terrible JPEG converts...) so don't be afraid to look....

Still more to process!

thank you :) That was one of my favourites, too :)

Was actually quite impressed by the performance of the nifty overall. I know first hand how bad the AF can be and with only a few fluro lights in the whole room, it did well. It didn't miss much, and when it did, it was mostly my bad anyway....

I like the last shot. Good timing, not so good framing though ;)

sorry for double post, just had another go at the composition of #3.

(-2/3 stop exp. comp. because his face was a little hot)

Trying to crop tight so the 3rd guitarist (left of image) isnt distracting. but not too tight that it looks cluttered.

better? Worse?

Cheers

thanks BJWOK, as much crap as people give it for its AF, when you get it right, you can't beat the quality of the pics for the price. It's amazing.

Heres my last one from the set for tonight. What do you guys think? I'm a very technical person (and not very arty at all, might explain why my compositions suck :P) but at the time, I thought it'd be a good photo to get for 2 reasons, the crowd looking upto the singer, and the singer in the 'spotlight'. Not being a very arty person (still learning that) I'm not sure if that was a good thing to think or not.. hahaha anyway, heres the pic:

i always find these shots from behind the crowd to be just that little bit better if you can crab a chair and get at least a foot above the crowd... gives that slight better angle of view (and perspective). nice attempt tho. man that lighting is flat!!

ahah yeah i was thinking that too, but the main problem is. It was a tiny hall and there was people everywhere and the singer was only up there for about 20 seconds so I'd rather get the shot how it was than miss it while hunting for a chair, in the ideal world i'd have done that, though :)

Yeah tell me about it! 2 fluorescent office lights lighting the entire stage (and room, aswell as a bit of natural light leaking in the windows) it was terrible! Oh well, Next time ahaha

Better I think. Not entirely sure. Difficult image to crop for sure.

Also, I see a "pink-ish" cast on some of the images.
