The rumours are strong everywhere in Japan about this camera and the new N* based on the F6 with 18MP CMOS full frame made by Sony. The new N* could be announced at the Shangai Photo Expo in July. About the 1DS MkII X - to achieve the speed of 9,5 fps, they managed to use only part of the full-frame sensor (an area equivalent to the APS-C size and the camera is automatically set for ISO 1600 with only 12 MP of resolution. I'm doing a search on the japanese sites for a relyable source (link).

..........april fools???...........

If this is true.........then I am glad - cuz Canon needs some major competition. But look at Canon - 9.5 fps!!! - but why only at ISo 1600??? I think thats a bit odd........I guess to compensate for the shutter speed.

It looks like it's not only a rumour.
There are more details including the estimated price(around 1200000 JPY)for the new Canon. They are calling the feature that allows the high speed continuous shooting by "clipping" . The other feature announced by N* is a totally new and powerful battery with fast recharging time and estimated life of 1,200 shots and they are explaining about the new nomenclature from now: the full frame line will be called "F" series and tha APS-C size frame line still being called "D" series. The 1DSMkII X will be available by order in a few months and the difference between the actual model and the new will be only the emblem.

If this is true.........then Canon is just spitting out these DSLR like there's no tomorrow!!! They probably realize that they have the upper hand now so they try to get as much pros and amateurs as possible into thier camp...........not a bad move.

Based on my experiance with Sony digitals thats a pretty damn good reason not to buy it.

And dosn't the 1D MK II manage 8fps useing the full frame?
The idea of a 1D MKII X sounds like a bad rumor based on poor translation of something someone said to this guy that knows the uncle of somebody who used to work for someone who was married to somebody who used to belong to a club that had a member in it who used to work for Canon about 20 years ago but still knows someone who works there on weekends cleaning the floors.

no the 1D MII isn't full frame. I wish it was! The only FF camera from Canon are 1Ds and 1Ds MKII, both isn't close to the 8fps.

You're right. I did some search and found the same. All threads started and stopped. And I think they started here: http://www.digitalcamera.jp/ .At the end of a long list of new releases they ask people to don't give credit and the date is April 1st.

Just to help avoid future rumours until it is likely they are out.

The Canon 1DM2 and 1DsMkII are currently processor limited more then sensor limited.
Meaning they are doing everything they can in the amount of time they have. In fact the 1DsMkII is apparently slightly overclocked as it will lock up sometimes if you try to display and image while it is still writing to card, happening more likely if at higher ISO levels.
So to do 12MP at 9.5fps would require a processor that is over twice as fast the current processor and it has not been 18 months yet (moore's law), so either the camera would have to be probably 32,000 US in price or we need to wait at least 18 months from November 04 for it to actually show up. They are more likely to go to 22-24MP and 5-6fps for the next 1DsM3 and 12-15MP, 8-9fps for 1D3. Then anything else, based on the apparent processor limitation.

As to N* releasing a FF camera, that would kill them as everyone would stop buying the DX lenses for the higher end cameras; since they had stated they have no plans to go beyond 1.5x for the forseeable future.

BTW: If shooting RAW I don't see why I would want to sensor crop the image. If shooting Jpeg, I already have that capability with 4 different sizes at 10 different quality levels.

Just my experience, research and opinion.
The next most likely real camera announcement will be in the late July, through Early Sept. Time-frame. Any rumours before that time are pure speculation.
