The battle images were shot during a 'tactical', basically a friendly competitive wargame away from spectators. Being away from the public gives photographers more freedom of movement. If you want to shoot an event like this it's also a good idea to contact a participating unit ahead of time and they will 'dress you out' in period clothing also improving your access.

Gus
Neat photos of a period of American history that should give us all pause. Well done. The color in Sergeant Major is terrific. The last picture is a cap to a great series. It definitley made me laugh.

I live 10 minutes from there! I never thought about going there to take photos though, atleast not during a reenactment.

Love the Zoave uniforms...and as the previous poster says, the last photo puts a humorous punctuation point to the series.

i like how you captured the realism of the reenactment, especiallythe part when lonely soldiers would use up anytime minutes between skirmishes. :D its cool how they let you in that close to take the shots.

Thanks for all the kind words. About my 'access' I have a bit of an advantage. I've been reenacting myself for 13 years. This was one of the few events were I had enough free time to use my camera.
