I have some senior portraits I did on a day that was a touch chilly (50 degrees F). Some of the better photos came from the end of the shoot but the poor girl's nose is a bit red. Its nothing to get upset over, but its noticeable...

I have Paint shop Pro 6.

I've tried making an "adjustment layer" over the nose and altering the saturation and hue...but I cant make a clean transition between her face and the "new" nose color.

Anybody care to tackle the best way to do this?

What does the healing brush do?...maybe there is one like it in PSP?

I can show you how to do it with PSCS but I can't help you with PSP6.

Can you make selections based on color with PSP6? That's what I did with PSCS after making a selection around the nose so that only the reds on the nose is selected. I then used the Hue/Saturation adjustment layer to tone down the saturation of RED as well as adjust the hue.

Well I have the photoshop LE 5.0 or whatever that came with my D30...

But, by selections based on color do you mean like you click on a pixel and it selects all other pixels that are that color...and you can adjust the range so that it picks either exactly that color or close to it?...becuase yea I can do that.

Just explain to me and I'll see if I can. I've found that I can do most things with PSP...I havent found a thing yet that I cant do with it.

Just in case you get the urge to experiment with this, PSE LE doesn't have the healing brush. It's new with PSE3.

Unfortunately PS LE 5.0 does not have the Select > Color Range feature but...

In PSCS, after selecting the area of the nose you want to work on and feathering the selection, make a selection of the RED pixels by clicking on Select > Color Range from the menu.

In the Color Range window, select Red from the dropdown list for Select: then click OK. You may get a warning message about no pixels more than 50% being selected. Just click OK.

From either the Images or the Layers menu, select Adjustments > Hue/Saturation. In the Hue/Saturation window, select Reds from the Edit: dropdown list. Then adjust the saturation until the red isn't so red anymore. Adjust the Hue so that the color more closely matches the rest of the skin colors.

Try lassoing just the red part of the nose with a feather edge (5 pixels at 72dpi, obviously more for print dpi). Create a new layer via copy. Go into hue and saturation and select red, and decrease the nose layer's red a bit. I tried it and I think it worked fine. Hard to tell on a monitor as opposed to a print, though.
