Hi guys,
I just ordered myself one of these units for my holidays so i don't have to take my Powerbook with me. It should be here tomorrow, i am very excited!!!
1.
Now then, battery life....... How long will a full battery last, how many downloads, how many hours viewing and deleting etc..?
Also if i need a spare battery does anyone know where i can get one and the best price?
2.
Firmware updates? I hear there was a recent firmware update. Can anyone tell me about this and whether i will need to apply this.
Thanks
R1 Kid

You just ordered it and it should be here tomorrow??? Where did you order it from? I've been looking and can't find anyone that has them instock.
Answer my question and I'll answer yours... ha ha...
Battery life... As per almost everything I've read. Approx 30 something 1 GB cards can be downloaded on one charge of batteries. But that depends on how much viewing you do etc.
Spare batteries... They're standard 4 AA batteries. Go buy a pack of like 24 for a few bucks. Or buy some rechargable ones because the device will recharge them when you plug it into an outlet.
Firmware. You'll have to wait and check it when you get the device. If it was "born" after the update came out then no most likely. If not then check the version number and update if necessary.

I got mine from Dabs.com (http://www.dabs.com) who had around 15 in stock. I am not sure if the ship to the states though.
I thought the battery was a single rechargable one....am i wrong.

I stand corrected and feel like a dumby.
I was thinking of the PD7X because that's what I've been looking at for quite a while, but there is just too much negative talk about this and that so I've changed my mind and like you am going with the P2000 (If I can find one!)
Yes the P2000 comes with one battery. Yes you can get more but I'd check around.

No, you are not wrong, but R1 Kid is ;)
Battery is an internal rechargeable that you can take out and replace with another. They are available, try Warehouse Express, £50 there.
Each full charge will give you approx. 7-8 x 1GB CF card downloads plus a bit of viewing/deleting etc. I.e. a charge should easily last a day of fairly heavy use.
No idea if will have the firmware update applied or not, but once you get it go to Settings from the main menu and it says on the screen, bottom right, what the current firmware is.
Cheers

omg £50?!?!?!? i think i got my backup battery for 4,200 yen.
the battery lasts about 8 1gig card transfers (not all at once) with chimping. it seems to only do about 5 if you do them all at once.
if you are using it as a pmp, it pretty much lasts for one divx movie.
with my homemade battery pack supplementing the built in battery, it lasted for 5 movies. the nice thing is i can then swap in new AA's without the unit shutting off. when it does shut down, it doesn't give you much warning
yes there is a firmware update - i highly recommend it as it fixes some niggly stability issues playing movies and also a bit of performance.

Skyman- extra battery is $60.00 here in US.
The firmware update is easy to do and similar in steps to camera updates.
The update gives you more camera models supported, RAW file support (but no zoom for RAW)
Most importantly: it now gives you the histogram !!
Just hit display twice, once gives you EXIF info, next it provides a nice sized histogram.
Had mine for about 5 weeks and it is well worth the price and waiting time. This is about the hottest unit on the market right now.

Ok guys its here!!
Boy that screen is a beauty!!! I love it. Now i don't have to take my powerbook on holiday with me.
The documentation that comes with it is crap though.
I had to update the firmware which was no problem at all. I am now just ripping a DVD to MPEG4 so my little one will be kept happy on the holiday car journey!
